Covid-19 Information Regarding Church Services

Thank you for taking time to view our website. We know this point in time in our society is a trying and for some, difficult, time to live. As of April 4, 2020, our Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has placed our state under an enforced “Stay At Home Order” due to the Covid-19, or “Coronavirus” Virus. Many families have been effected by this virus. Our prayers go out daily for those touched.

Thankfully, the “Stay At Home” Declaration gave permissions for Churches to perform “Drive-In” Church services. Here at Winfield Free Will Baptist Church, we are doing just that! When weather permits, we are meeting in our parking lot, facing the Family Life Center Gymnasium. During these services, we do ask that attendees remain in their cars. If leaving your vehicle is needed for any reason, we ask that the “6-foot rule” be in practice to make certain everyone remains safe from any potential possible contamination.

In addition to our drive-in services, live services will be available and viewed online via our Facebook page or Youtube Streaming at our normal service times.  You can also view our live services by clicking on the Sermons/Media tab at the top of this page.

The President and the COVID-19 task force have asked that there be no social gathering of 10 or more people. Some might think that this is an overreach of the government and that churches should continue to stay open. Our decision was based upon two guiding principles: to be good citizens living in submission to a reasonable request from our governing officials (Romans 13) and to be good neighbors who look after the health and welfare of others as we love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:10-11).

I know this is a difficult transition for many (including me, the pastor) but there are a few things that can help us during this transition. In the aftermath of tornadoes ripping through Tennessee a few weeks ago, a pastor looked into the camera of a local news channel and said, “Our church building has been wiped out but we know that the church remains. People make up the church not buildings.” That is so true! Even though we might not be meeting in our building WE ARE THE CHURCH and where two or three are gathered, God is in the midst. So let’s gather online and be the church united. Please take note of the following adjustments to church life:

Our Gatherings
We will be gathering online on our church Facebook page and YouTube channel:
Sunday Morning at 11am
Sunday Night at 6pm
Wednesday Night at 6pm

Our Going
We are committed to protecting our elderly during the outbreak. If you know of a need or have a need yourself, please call or email me ( and we will do what we can. We already have volunteers ready to deliver groceries and provide other assistance to those in need so please don’t hesitate to let us know.

In conclusion, allow me to remind us all of the verse that God has laid on my heart during this season of uncertainty. Paul told young, anxious Timothy in 2 Timothy 1:7, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Power is the ability to do something instead of living in fear. Let’s get busy doing what we can. Love speaks of the outward focus that God desires for us to have as we refuse fear the power to turn us inward and selfish. The sound mind that God gives is a calmness to make wise decisions and to control our impulses that are driven by fear.

As the song says, “Many things about tomorrow I don’t seem to understand, but I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand.”
~ Pastor Kent Nelson

This is a reminder that you can now give to the church via text messaging. Those already using “text giving” have found it to be a great tool to utilize to give while traveling or simply when you forget to bring your offering to church.

In order to give, all you have to do is text the word “Give” to (205)334-3648 and simply follow the instructions.

Thank you for being obedient to the Lord and supporting the church through your tithes and offerings.

We would like to welcome you to join us in services at Winfield Free Will Baptist Church. Whether you’re a longtime member or a guest just visiting, we’d be delighted to have you.
